Air Duct Cleaning FAQ — Camarillo, CA
Common questions from homeowners in Camarillo and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.
Do Camarillo homes really need duct cleaning, and how often?
Most houses here do fine on a five to seven year cycle. What shortens that is where you sit. If row-crop or strawberry fields back up to your tract, tilling season pushes fine agricultural dust into return air, and attic ducts with loose joints pull more of it in. Homes that went through a fall Santa Ana event with wildfire smoke in the air often want a cleaning sooner than the calendar says.

Walk me through the actual job, start to finish.
We look at the system first: furnace, coil, plenum, and a few supply runs pulled open so you can see what we see. Then a negative-air machine goes on the trunk line and every register gets sealed off. We work room by room with rotating brushes and compressed air, driving debris toward the vacuum, and we do the returns last because that's where the heaviest load sits. Blower compartment and grilles get wiped down, registers go back on, and we re-check airflow before we leave.

How much of my day does this take?
A single-story 1970s tract home with one system usually runs three to four hours. Two-story Springville and hillside houses from the 1990s and 2000s often have two systems and longer attic runs, so plan on most of a day. Older homes with furnace-only setups or leftover evaporative cooling sometimes go faster, sometimes slower, depending on what the ductwork looks like once we open it. We give you a realistic window on site, not a guess over the phone.

Why do two houses on the same street get different numbers?
Register count is the biggest driver. A two-system two-story with eighteen or twenty drops is simply more work than a single-story with nine. After that it's access: ducts buried under blown-in insulation in a vented attic, or a furnace crammed into a tight hall closet, slow everything down. Condition matters too, since heavy field dust and construction debris take more passes than light household lint. We look at all of it in person and tell you the number before anyone touches a tool.

Will you be moving my furniture around or leaving dust everywhere?
We move what blocks a register and put it back. Heavy pieces stay where they are unless you ask. The negative-air machine keeps the system under suction the whole time, so loosened debris goes into the vacuum instead of into your living room. Drop cloths go under every work area and we vacuum up after ourselves.

My airflow is bad. Is that the dryer or the furnace?
Check which appliance is complaining. Clothes taking two cycles to dry, a hot laundry room, or a burning smell near the dryer points at a blocked dryer vent, and that's its own line to the exterior wall or roof. Weak air at bedroom registers, uneven room temperatures, or dust settling right back on furniture a day after cleaning points at the HVAC ducts. The two systems don't connect, so one being clean tells you nothing about the other. We test both if you're not sure.

What if there's mold in the ducts?
We stop and show you. With the May through August marine layer and night fog coming through the Camarillo gap, we do find damp spots at coils, drain pans, and flex runs in cooler attic corners. Surface growth on hard metal can be cleaned and treated. Growth inside porous flex duct, or anything that looks like a bigger moisture problem, needs the duct replaced and the water source fixed first, and we'll say so rather than spray over it.

Does a new filter come with the cleaning?
We swap in a standard-size filter as part of the job when we have your size on the truck. We stock common sizes for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, and American Standard systems. Odd sizes or high-MERV media cabinets we'll order or point you to, and we'll tell you which filter rating your blower can actually handle. Putting a fresh filter in dirty ducts wastes the filter, so this always happens last.

Can someone come out today?
Often yes. Morning calls have the best odds of a same-day slot. Our busiest stretches are spring, when grass and oak pollen off the chaparral hillsides hits returns hard, and fall during Santa Ana wind events. If today is full we'll usually have something the next morning, and we'll give you a straight answer on the phone instead of a vague window.

Where in Ventura County do you work?
Camarillo is home base, covering the older tract neighborhoods, Springville, Mission Oaks, and the hillside subdivisions. We also run through the Pleasant Valley and Oxnard Plain side, plus Somis, Santa Rosa Valley, Oxnard, Newbury Park, and Thousand Oaks. If you're on the edge of that, call and ask rather than assuming we don't come out. Most of the county is a short drive for us.
