Air Duct Sanitizing in Camarillo, CA

Does sanitizing actually fix a musty-smelling duct system?

Not on its own. Sanitizing is a finishing step, not a substitute for mechanical cleaning. Antimicrobial sprayed over loose dust just coats the dust. Brushing and agitation come first, with negative air pulled through. Only then does anything reach bare metal.

Surface type decides what is even possible. Pre-1975 Camarillo homes often have rigid galvanized trunks with original internal fiberglass liner. That liner is porous and already shedding. Chemicals soak into it and stay. Lined runs usually call for encapsulation or replacement instead. Post-1980 attic flex has a thin plastic inner core on a wire helix. If a run is crushed, kinked, or torn, fogging it does nothing.

Find the source before treating anything. Marine moisture meeting a cold evaporator coil is why growth starts at the coil and supply plenum here, not out in the branches. Separated boots at ceiling registers are the other common cause, pulling attic insulation and blown cellulose straight into the airstream.

Ask which product is going in and read the label yourself. It should be EPA-registered for HVAC surfaces, applied at label dilution, with people and pets out through the dwell time. Ozone generators are not sanitizing. If duct interiors are clean metal with odor only at the coil, treat the coil and plenum and leave the rest alone.

What happens after you call us

  1. 1

Call and tell us how many vents and returns you have, and whether it's one furnace or two. We book a 90 minute arrival window and text you when the van is 20 minutes out.

  2. 2

We open the return, look in the trunk line, and check the attic runs before we quote. The estimate is free and you hear the full price while we're still standing in your hallway.

  3. 3

We negative-air the system, brush every run, wipe the registers, and run the blower so you can feel the airflow. Drop cloths come up, the attic hatch gets sealed, and you pay the quoted price.
